形容詞afraid 的用法

　　1. 不是動(dòng)詞，是形容詞，因此不能單獨(dú)作謂語：正：Don’t be afraid. 別怕。誤：Don’t afraid.

　　2. 是表語形容詞，一般不能放在名詞前作定語。但若是本身有修飾語，則也可以放在名詞前作定語;有時(shí)構(gòu)成短語可放在被修飾的名詞后作后置定語：a boy afraid of dogs 怕狗的男孩 a very much afraid boy 十分膽怯的男孩

　　3. I’m afraid 意為“恐怕”，是一種提出異議、說出令人不快事實(shí)時(shí)的委婉說法：

　　I’m afraid (that) he won’t come. 恐怕他不會(huì)來了。

　　I’m afraid 之后可接 so 或 not, 表示前面所提到的情況。表肯定時(shí)用 so;表否定時(shí)用 not：

　　A：Will he be late again? 他又會(huì)遲到嗎? B：I’m afraid so (not). 恐怕會(huì) (不會(huì))吧。

　　注意上面的否定說法不能改為 I’m not afraid (so)

　　4. 比較be afraid of doing sth / be afraid to dosth：

　　(1)兩者含義大致相同，意為“害怕 (做)…”、“不敢 (做)…” ：

　　I’m afraid to tell [of telling] her. 我不敢告訴她。

　　(2)但若要表示擔(dān)心可能會(huì)發(fā)生某事，則只能用 be afraid of doing而不能用 be afraid to do：

　　I was afraid of hurting herfeelings. 我怕傷了她的感情。

　　She was afraid of waking herhusband. 她怕弄醒她丈夫。
