《明天會更好》創(chuàng)作背景
1984年非洲埃塞俄比亞發(fā)生饑荒，為援助饑民，美國歌手以稍早英國群星合唱的Do They Know It's Christmas公益單曲為藍本，由流行音樂之王邁克爾·杰克遜發(fā)起，組織，組成USA For Africa、并推出了由邁克爾·杰克遜和萊昂納爾·里奇共同譜寫，后由邁克爾·杰克遜獨自填詞完成的歌曲《天下一家》(We Are The World)，專輯版稅捐作賑災(zāi)用途，回響極為熱烈，并募得巨款，流風所及，世界各地多有仿效者。
1985年恰逢臺灣光復(fù)(結(jié)束日本殖民統(tǒng)治)40周年，1986年則是“世界和平年”，《明天會更好》的創(chuàng)作初衷即是模仿《We Are The World》“群星為公益而唱”的形式，呼應(yīng)世界和平年的主題、并紀念臺灣光復(fù)40周年。
《明天會更好》邀集的華人歌手跨越不同地域、不同唱片公司，打破了簽約的限制。專輯制作單位以“明天基金會籌備會”的名義，邀集臺灣當時最知名的唱片公司，包括飛碟、喜瑪拉雅、新格、歌林、滾石、鄉(xiāng)城、寶麗金、麗歌等公司參與這張專輯，并由各家唱片公司競標發(fā)行權(quán)。專輯售出的盈馀，系由后來標得專輯發(fā)行權(quán)的藍與白唱片公司捐給中華民國消費者文教基金會，為消基會籌募新臺幣600萬元的基金，作為公益之用。
“紀念臺灣光復(fù)40周年”的主題在歌曲發(fā)行之后，反而很少被提及。這可能與發(fā)行時間一再推延、錯過了1985年10月25日的“臺灣光復(fù)節(jié)”有關(guān)?！睹魈鞎谩返墓嬖V求，遂變得更模糊、分歧。當時臺灣唱片市場的盜版、盜錄問題十分嚴重，加上曾有媒體以“海盜王國”形容臺灣生產(chǎn)名牌仿冒品的猖獗情形，對臺灣的國際形象傷害頗大，故“反盜版”、“反盜錄”、“反仿冒”也成為許多參與歌手強調(diào)的主題。專輯發(fā)行之后，由于消基會和政府當局查獲許多《明天會更好》的盜版與仿冒版本，媒體報導(dǎo)頗多，消基會與政府不斷藉機強調(diào)“反盜版”的重要，故后來媒體提及此曲，幾乎都會一并提及“反盜版”的訴求。但據(jù)當時參與創(chuàng)作的張大春回憶，“反盜版”并非這首歌的原始創(chuàng)作動機。
根據(jù)當時參與的創(chuàng)作人回憶，這首歌的作詞者之所以多達7位，是因為羅大佑的歌詞版本被認為“主題意識過于灰色消極”，不能全盤采用。錄唱前夕，主辦單位邀集許多音樂界、文化界人士，各自貢獻詞句，以羅大佑的版本為主，逐句修潤，才共同完成最終的歌詞定稿。
