如何翻譯中文稱謂

　　稱謂代表了一個人的職位、職銜或?qū)W銜，體現(xiàn)了一個人的資歷和地位。稱謂的誤譯不僅是對有關(guān)人員的不尊重，而且也會產(chǎn)生種種不良的后果。稱謂的準確翻譯其關(guān)鍵在于譯員對有關(guān)人員的身份及其稱謂的表達是否有一個正確的理解，尤其是對稱謂語的認識。一種稱謂語很可能表示多種身份，例如，英語的頭銜語 president，譯成漢語時可視具體情況分別譯作共和國的總統(tǒng)、國家主席、大學(xué)的校長、學(xué)院的院長、學(xué)會或協(xié)會的會長或主席、公司的總裁或董事長等等。

　　如何翻譯中文稱謂

　　一般說來，各類機構(gòu)或組織的首長其漢語稱謂譯成英語時雖可套用通用詞 head，但從比較嚴格的意義上看，應(yīng)使用特定的、規(guī)范的稱謂語。例如：

　　1. 董事長(企業(yè)) President/Chairman of the Board of Directors

　　2. 董事長(學(xué)校) President/Chairman of the Board of Trustees

　　3. 校長(大學(xué)) President of Beijing University

　　4. 校長(中小學(xué)) Principal /Headmaster of Donghai Middle School

　　5. 院長(大學(xué)下屬) Dean of the Graduate School

　　6. 系主任(大學(xué)學(xué)院下屬) Chair/Chairman of the English Department

　　7. 會長/主席(學(xué)/協(xié)會) President of the Student Union, Shanghai University

　　8. 廠長(企業(yè)) Director of the Machine Tools Manufacturing Plant

　　9. 院長(醫(yī)院) President of Huadong Hospital

　　10. 主任(中心) Director of the Business Center

　　11. 主任(行政) Director of Foreign Affairs Office

　　首席長官的漢語稱謂常以“總……”表示，而表示首席長官的英語稱謂語則常帶有 chief general, head , managing 這類詞，因此當翻譯冠以“總”字的頭銜時，需遵循英語頭銜的表達習(xí)慣：

　　17. 有些部門或機構(gòu)的首長或主管的英譯，可以用一些通用的頭銜詞表示，例如下列機構(gòu)的負責(zé)人可以用 director, head 或 chief 來表示：

　　19. 廳(省屬)department

　　20. 署(省屬)office(行署為administrative office)

　　21. 局 bureau

　　22. 所 institute

　　23. 處 division

　　29. 國務(wù)院 the State Council 屬下的部為 ministry，所以部長叫作 minister。

　　另外，公署專員叫作commissioner，其辦事機構(gòu)叫作“專員公署”，英語為 prefectural commissioner's office。

　　漢語中表示副職的頭銜一般都冠以“副”字，英譯時需視詞語的固定搭配或表達習(xí)慣等情況，可選擇 vice, associate, assistant, deputy 等詞。相對而言，vice 使用面較廣，例如：

　　1. 副總統(tǒng)(或大學(xué)副校長等)vice president

　　2. 副主席(或系副主任等)vice chairman

　　3. 副 vice premier

　　4. 副部長 vice minister

　　5. 副省長 vice governor

　　6. 副市長 vice mayor

　　8. 副校長(中小學(xué))vice principal

　　9. 行政職務(wù)的副職頭銜與學(xué)術(shù)頭銜的“副”職稱往往用不同的詞表達，最為常用的英語詞是 associate，例如：
