　　1)late晚，遲到。比如：

　　I found I was five minutes late for the meeting.

　　我發(fā)現(xiàn)我開會(huì)遲到了5分鐘。

　　Tony came home late from work.

　　托尼下班回家晚了。

　　2)“時(shí)間段+later”表示“從過去某一點(diǎn)時(shí)間往后推算的一段時(shí)間后”。比如：

　　He hung the telephone, but a few minutes later she called again.

　　他掛上了電話，但幾分鐘后她又打回來(lái)了。

　　I went toXi’an on business in 1990, and two years later I visited the old city again.

　　我1990年去西安出差，兩年后我又訪問了這個(gè)古城。

　　(the old city指Xi’an,英語(yǔ)中的同意替換,避免重復(fù))

　　3)later (on)后來(lái)，以后 可以用于過去或者將來(lái)。比如：

　　We listened to his talk and had a discussion later (on).

　　我們聽了他的報(bào)告，后來(lái)又進(jìn)行了討論。

　　We shall build another underground railway later (on).

　　以后我們將再建一條地鐵。
